Every March holds a significant place in my heart,

Every March holds a significant place in my heart, a time of celebration and reflection that has become intertwined with the powerful notion of inclusion. It all started when I was diagnosed with breast cancer, a life-altering period that changed my perspective profoundly and brought forth a new chapter in my journey.

It was during this challenging time that I made a decision—strong bold and grateful (the birth of @strongboldgrateful)—I chose to “come out” about my battle with cancer on social media.

Sharing such intimate and vulnerable details felt daunting for a long time initially, but even with much reluctance, I knew deep inside that it was a step I needed to take because I am immensely grateful.

Little did I know how this act of vulnerability would transform not only my life but the lives of many around me.

As March rolled around each year in reflection, I discovered a beautiful coincidence – it was also the month designated for celebrating and advocating for inclusion. And it was in this merging of significance that a newfound depth of meaning emerged for me.

My disclosure was met with an outpouring of love, support, and empathy from all of you and March, the month of inclusion, has became a reminder of that overwhelming wave of support I received. Your kindness and understanding melted away the isolation and fear that often accompanies a cancer diagnosis.

So, each March, I celebrate not only my own resilient journey but also the collective strength born from inclusivity. I am grateful for the opportunity to share my story, and I am humbled by the compassion and support that continue to surround me from all of you.

In this month of inclusion, let us remember the power we hold in embracing one another, in celebrating our diversity, and in creating a society where every person feels seen, heard, and valued- a reminder of the beautiful tapestry of human experiences, and may we continue to grow in love and understanding as we navigate our own journeys of inclusion.

My catwalk dream come true!

Stepping onto the catwalk was a dream come true, an exhilarating moment- the bright lights, the anticipation in the air, and the pulse of the music created an electrifying atmosphere.

But amidst the excitement, there was a surprising twist that took hold of me.

The surprising sense of responsibility reminded me that the catwalk is not just about showcasing fashion; it is about honoring the artistry and vision of the designer.

Assigned to wear @paopao.label, having had conversed with @runx2 at the fittings and prior to the show- I understood what goes behind all the intricate details, the flawless craftsmanship, and the thoughtfully curated collection- filled me with a deep respect for her work.

Therefore, for me, it is about being a vessel, a conduit that translates the designer @runx2 dreams into a tangible experience for the audience. This unexpected feeling ignited a fire within me, urging me to embrace this opportunity with utmost dedication and professionalism.

As the show ended, I couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of fulfillment. Walking the catwalk was indeed a dream come true, but it was the unexpected drive to do justice to the designer that made the experience all the more profound.

My personal encounter with the designer @runx2 was all the difference- this revelation has forever changed my perspective, reminding me that on the catwalk, I am not just a model, but a conduit for showcasing the art and talent behind each stunning creation.

In this month of celebrating females in all sense through International Women’s Day (IWD), here is to big shoutout out to @runx2 designer and founder of @paopao.label, who has been working both in corporate and at the same time running this business, and with the multiple responsibilities in family life. And had most recently started running this, full time.

My 360 imperfection.

Like in this 360: I was “perfect” (first 6s of vid), but now I choose (4-8s) to live imperfectly. Do you see a major difference in my disposition in just the last 4s? Right!

A tale of transformation, growth, and a newfound freedom that comes with embracing imperfection.

I used to want everything up to “my standard”, —a relentless quest for “perfect” haunted my every move. But let me tell you, I’ve waved goodbye to that mindset, and it feels absolutely liberating!

It took some 10 years, since 2014, of soul-searching and a healthy dose of self-reflection to realize that my pursuit of “my perfect” was holding me back. Not that it was THAT perfect anyway!

I was constantly afraid of failing, of making mistakes, and it was suffocating my creativity and joy. A wise man asked me, “when is enough, enough?”

It was time to break free from the shackles of imprisonment and start living life without chains.

So I disected my life: I kicked perfectionism to the curb and embraced my imperfections with open arms. I traded in my fear of failure for a sense of adventure and curiosity. Instead of obsessing over every little detail, I started focusing on the big picture—the experiences, the memories, and the joy that comes from simply having fun.

Letting go is no easy feat. It requires courage and a willingness to be vulnerable. It means putting myself out there, even when there’s a chance I might stumble and fall. And you know what? It’s been absolutely worth it.

Now, don’t get me wrong—I still strive for excellence and put my heart and soul into everything I do. But now it’s fueled by a sense of passion and joy rather than an unattainable quest for perfection. I’ve learned to be kinder to myself, to celebrate my successes, and to embrace my failures as opportunities for growth.

So, here’s to a life free from the suffocating grip of what is holding us back. Here’s to dancing, laughing, and embracing the messy, glorious chaos that comes with being human. Life is too short to waste it on misguided notions of perfection. Instead, let’s seize the day, take risks, and have fun along the way.

Raising funds at a Gala Dinner as an Emcee, so much as $XXX,000, is by far the most nerve wrecking function of all!!!

I shivered in my dress so much that probably all the bling was shimmering and would be noticed if one had come closer!

The most significant moments (in my heart) was being my own personal “giving up”- and I come to realise of how little faith I have 😭

At $A0,000, I wanted to give up. $B0,000 too, at $X0,000 and $Y0,000 I also wanted to give up. Even at $Z0,000 I was not sure.

Then I look at my Co-Host for the fundraising segment, Chair person, Trillion Soo, she does not look like she is anywhere near giving up, in fact she looks like she is full of faith and zeal.

Each time I waver, others start giving. Each time this providence happens, until the target amount was raised and hit!!

The ballroom was ablaze with reactions of overjoy, and so was my heart- ablaze with a sigh of relief and I was lost for words.

This… was particularly fun and humbling in experiencing and witnessing all that i had felt and seen! 😂

All jokes aside, raising funds for charity as an Emcee is an incredibly rewarding experience that I hold close to my heart. It is a role that requires not only touching hearts but also a great deal of personal faith.

The feeling of making a positive tangible impact in the lives of those in need is truly unparalleled.

Knowing that the funds raised will go towards supporting worthy causes, providing aid, and creating positive change fills me with a deep sense of fulfillment and purpose. Seeing the direct impact of these funds on individuals and communities is a constant reminder of why this work is so important.

It is a privilege to be a part of such meaningful work, and I am continuously humbled and inspired by the incredible impact that can be achieved through the unity and generosity of others.

Together with co-Host, Shawn D’Cotta, we wore many hats, sang along, and thank God, almighty for all the funds raised for the 4 charities.

So, picture this: I’m all set to be the fabulous

So, picture this: I’m all set to be the fabulous emcee at this big event. The stage is set, the lights are shining, and the crowd is buzzing with anticipation.

I step up to the microphone, ready to dazzle them with my wit and charm. But you know what they say about the best-laid plans, right?

Just as I open my mouth to speak, out comes... a croaky, hoarse voice! Yes, folks, apparently my vocal cords decided to take a vacation just when I needed them the most. Talk about an unforeseen circumstance!

Now, imagine the scene: I’m trying to sound like a suave and sophisticated emcee, but every word that comes out of my mouth sounds… raspy. The audience is either wincing in sympathy or trying to stifle their laughter. Oh, the joys of live events!

But hey, I’m not one to back down from a challenge. So, with a grin on my face and a determined spirit, I soldier on. I acknowledge about sounding like a duck with a stuffy nose. I even throw in a few hilarious impromptu jokes about this situation I am in, just to keep things interesting.

As the evening unfolded with thoughtful performances, games with prizes, everyone got more excited and so did my voice get worse. Laughter fills the room, and suddenly, my hoarse voice becomes a bizarre source of entertainment while raising funds for charity.Thankful to Co-Host, Shawn D’Cotta!

As the event goes on, I continue to power through, making sure my personality shines through my croaky, funny-sounding voice. And you know what? Despite this mysterious hiccup, the event turns out to be a rip-roaring success and we FUNDRAISED $150,000 in 15 minutes, including auctioning a commissioned art piece!

With everyone laughing & having a great time. Who knew a hoarse voice could be so entertaining?

So, there you have it, the tale of the emcee with the hoarse voice. Lesson learned: even in the face of unexpected circumstances, laughter is the best medicine.

And hey, if life hands you a hoarse voice, why not turn it into a memorable and hilarious performance? Embrace the quirks, and never underestimate the power of a good laugh- even when we are the center of un-wanted attention! 😂

One of the things I love about speaking is, being able to interact with the guests/ panel, in this case with @curasiasg CEO, Founders and doctors, is extremely intriguing to me.

In this event, I got to understand so much more of the Founders Don Poh, Apple Chan @xoxoapo, Benjamin Tan @heybentan, Jerald Foo @jeraldfoo motivations, cause and purpose on a personal level, of why Curasia Endoscopy was created so that everyone and anyone can afford it.

It is really admirable that these Founders aspire to reduce Colorectal Cancer rates in Singapore by building a series of decentralized Endoscopy Centres in the Heartlands.

Celebrity, Singapore Actress, notably of Ah Boys to Men 4” and “Ah Girls Go Army”, is also one of the Founders of Curasia “Apple Chan @xoxoapo. It is so powerful that she is making a difference in this way too.

I understand from one of the founders Ben Tan @heybentan that Curasia provides endoscopy, including both gastroscopies and colonoscopies, through day surgery facilities to reduce unnecessary hospitalisations. Curasia also works closely with clinical staff to provide a seamless experience for their patients.

In these occasions when I get to get up close and personal with the Doctors and medical professionals who possess a wealth of knowledge and experience, this unique opportunity allows me to continuously learn and grow in the process of advocating self-care, and comprehend from them firsthand; extremely invaluable to me.

Founder Jerald Foo @jeraldfoo also shared with the audience his why, and how he had a personal health encounter.

I especially look forward to speak in the medical realm because it gives me the chance to have a positive impact on healthcare knowledge sharing and it also allows me to disseminate information through interviews and discussions, allowing me to continue contributing to the education and awareness of important medical topics.

So, even if we are diagnosed, our lives can be turned around with angels like doctors and medical professionals who will take care of us or our love ones along the way.

Being a passionate advocate about empowerment, in

Being a passionate advocate about empowerment, in all ways, and especially now in self-care and in healthcare, it was a unique and fulfilling way to communicate “how I can help myself”; how can we help ourselves.

Moderating and interviewing these esteemed Doctors’ was an incredibly rewarding experience for me.

Joined by these special people here with me, we spoke about how we can bridge this gap- that Breast Cancer can be cured.

We delved deep into each of their expertise, they answered thought-provoking questions, and brought out valuable insights that can benefit professionals in the medical field and all of us.

Breast Cancer can happen to any of us (the risk, as a female) even if we did our best to take care of ourselves, that is why we must know our own health data to empower ourselves!

An affluent and modern lifestyle allows us to access luxury, and therefore, all the more, we must make very wise decisions- A lifestyle of high animal fat, red meat, processed food and alcohol, including a non-active, sedentary lifestyle are contributing factors to cancer, breast cancer in particular.

Even more so because of my personal experiences, I found it very exciting, and an intellectually stimulating experience to engage in the meaningful conversations with these doctors who specialise in the breast cancer area, who have dedicated their lives to healing and helping others.

Whenever I am in the company of doctors, I am in awe of their dedication, expertise, and inspiring stories that motivate me and deepen my respect for the medical profession.

Lights, camera, action. BEAM!

Having experienced radiotherapy myself in and on these state of the art machines, I was more than excited to have the opportunity to interview Mr Kenneth Tan, President of Asia Pacifc & Japan, from VARIAN (A Siemens Healthineers company), at their town hall in Singapore and aired globally.

I was absolutely impressed with Kenneth during this opportunity to interview him and also share with him and Varian, my positive personal experiences during my radiotherapy sessions.

From the moment Kenneth and I started our conversation, I could sense a unique combination of humility, intelligence, and passion in him that immediately caught my attention.

Throughout our discussion, Kenneth spoke with a deep passion and showcased an incredible depth of knowledge in his field, sharing insights and perspectives that were both profound and thought-provoking.

What struck me the most about Kenneth was his genuine authenticity and transparency. He shared personal stories about himself and his family, challenges, and lessons learned along his journey.

This vulnerability created an atmosphere of trust and openness, making our conversation more meaningful and engaging.

Kenneth’s exceptional intellect, humility, and genuine passion left a lasting impression on me. His insights and personal anecdotes challenged me to think differently especially as a leader and to push boundaries in a positively impactful way.

Having chatted after our interview, Kenneth shared with me how he explores each country on bicycles and now through water sports. I was blown away and how exciting it appeared to me- I am now extremely inspired to pursue my fitness and adventure goals with a renewed sense of purpose!

I am truly grateful for the opportunity to have interviewed Kenneth and am confident that his remarkable influence will continue to inspire others in their own endeavours, and through medical systems.

How do I encourage my audience to be the best version of themselves?

I love helping my audience look at the big picture of their own lives, encouraging them to aspire to be the best version of themselves possible, with any given situation, really!

FIND COMMON GROUND
The thing that excites me the most when facilitating difficult legacy entrenched issues are helping diverse individuals bridge gaps, find common ground, and expand their perspective.

BEING SENSITIVE
One of the things I have found that I can sensitively and intuitively understand is group dynamics and being able to spot communication techniques of individuals such that I make sure all voices are heard and valued.

CREATE A SAFE ENVIRONMENT
What I find most fulfilling are when people come to a point where they feel safe enough to actively participate and have open dialogue.

PRIORITIZE INCLUSION
I found that it is so vital when leading a diverse group to see the bigger picture and inspire them, at the same time bringing a neutral and inclusive perspective to the table.

SENSE OF BELONGING
By fostering a sense of belonging, it is possible to inspire diverse groups to collaborate, think beyond their individual interests, and collectively work towards achieving the bigger picture.

I was emotionally reminded how grateful I am.

In preparing and speaking at Singapore Tourism Board (STB), I was emotionally reminded how grateful I am to the teams of people who each do so much for Singapore, and one of the pillars I am grateful for is STB- because as I walked around Singapore in between chemotherapy sessions, I would see tourists everywhere admiring Singapore in every place I went- but particularly more so at the Bayfront of Esplanade Merlion area, where it was visually significant, with least 200-300 people every morning.

Knowing that our country is regarded highly by tourists gives me a profound sense of pride, and I remember feeling so grateful to STB, for its commitment and dedication to promoting everything that makes Singapore unique and special.

Amidst the challenges of battling cancer, the serene beauty of the bayfront provided me with a much-needed escape and solace. The stunning skyline, the gentle breeze off the water, and the vibrant energy of the surrounding area lifted my spirits and gave me a sense of calm and peace.

From iconic landmarks like the Marina Bay Sands to the vibrant cultural enclaves of Chinatown and Little India, though each step was a struggle to breathe and walk normally- all because of the side effects of chemotherapy, I appreciated the rich modernity and rich heritage seen and felt of my beloved home. Each time coming home after, feeling deeply rejuvenated and uplifted by the beautiful experience I got every single day.

I hope that connecting emotionally with the people in the audience at STB would ignite and inspire on a deeper level. Especially on days when it gets tough. That these personal narratives shared with them would create a lasting impression and provide an impetus for transformation, both at an individual and organisation level.

One of my biggest joys!

Is being an emcee. It has unlocked a passion within me that I had never experienced before.

Whenever I host, I feel this sense of joy, like a leap in my footstep, a spring in my walk.

I am filled with a strength. It feels like a higher calling that resonates deep within my soul. This moment in this pic, captured it all!

This privilege fills me with immense joy and purpose.

But it surely was not like this in the initial years!

There was so much fear at the beginning and asked myself why would I want to do this to myself?! I would be anxious and nervous for days, sweating buckets, doing everything else except preparing for the event. And at the actual speech, stumbling, stuttering, focusing so much on myself, fumbling with something near me or around me, shaking my leg, biting my nails, tossing my hair. Basically going blank. The list goes on.

I remember how I would say a prayer every single time, before speaking up to more than 4 people (even with 4?!), let alone, going up on stage to emcee to a thousand people. There was so much fear in anticipation that I would say the wrong thing, look silly or be dumb founded, like a deer in the headlights and not be able to adapt.

So I needed a lot of courage, a lot of it. Who better than to help me, than the Holy Spirit!

I have learned that being an emcee is never really about oneself, but instead acting as a facilitator and guide, to bring the attention of the audience towards the better thing and together, in a direction.

As an emcee, there are privileged unique opportunities to connect with people, share their stories, and create a memorable experience for the people present.

The energy and excitement that fill the space especially when people are engaged, thinking deeper and getting inspired with aha-moments, are indescribable.

I would have never found this joy if I had given up at the first, second or the 100th failure.

This role brings me fulfilment, and a deep sense of gratification, making me truly grateful for this remarkable journey.

I consider it my great honor.

Take-aways and aha moments

Amongst the many duties and responsibilities as an Emcee and Speaker, one of the most important aspects to me is when there is an opportunity to impart take-aways and aha moments, either through speaking at an event or a learning journey.

In this case, it is my 2nd time honor to be especially sharing about the Catholic faith, to Secondary students and teachers from a Secondary school of our Catholic Church, our Singapore Catholic history and our Parish church for their learning journey.

This learning journey was this Secondary school’s efforts to enable students to have a better appreciation of the diverse racial and religious cultures in Singapore. This marks the second time, Church of St Michael @churchofstmichaelsg has hosted students and teachers.

A tour was given of different areas around the church as teachers and students came to understand a little more of the initiatives and programmes one may see in and around Singapore.

In preparing for the event, I reflected on how religion influenced my personal development as an adolsecent and growing up into a young adult- the spirit of open mindedness to ideas and experiences, I was also generally more agreeable and conscientious overall. When things were tough, bible versus will pop into my heart and guide my head and actions.

Being sensitive that we are a multireligous nation, and aside all these head knowledge they had acquired , I wanted the students to leave with big questions to ponder that was related to Christian faith and also what every person will think about.

- What are your goals or purpose for your life?
- HOW will you live your life with gratefulness for the - blessings you have?
- WHO will you make a difference to in your daily life, how will you show it?

With faith formation as the bedrock of my life, these questions may appear simple on the surface but are deeply rooted in the Christian faith.

Can I say, aptly put,

“I pray that a mustard seed was planted in every teenager who needed to hear it, in these opportunities together I hope they will encounter Jesus’ peace and be open to receive” 😜🔥💘

The highest order of hosting as an Emcee

To me, is connecting people better and more meaningfully to encounter Jesus.

While holding high standards of what makes a good emcee for a commercial event successful, for me it is a calling, my honor to hold even higher standards for God my father for faith related events such as Feast Days- because it is about focusing on God and facilitating people of all ages in the crowd, for me an opportunity to be a catalyst, to spark moments in hope for people of all ages in the crowd, to individually encounter Jesus in one’s own ways. To create an at most for everyone, to simply have fun and enjoy what God has gifted- the gift of peace, security, time and the company of each other.

I personally enjoyed seeing beyond the surface and instead, allowing God my father to lead and guide me along the way, including who to pull up for a dance and who to tickle in participating!

I especially liked the challenge of technical hook ups and media failures, the energy of live streaming, spontaneous interviews and bringing up the energy in the audience.

But instead what I found nerve wrecking is giving up control:

Instead, giving the Holy Spirit the opportunity to reveal to me what ought to be done and how to introduce an atmosphere of hospitality and warmth to especially people who are not of the faith yet.

I have learned in being a good Master of Ceremony in any situation or occasion, inside and out of his church, is to be ready all the time- because God promises that the Holy Spirit never fails to guide- to give me the courage and inspiration.

From the dancing, singing, praising, worshipping, arts, crafts, games, I must say that I love working with the Holy Spirit. Because I did not have to do much and so much was encountered!

I for one, was moved in my heart to moments of tears of joy when I saw beyond into the depths of hearty laughters.

Such soul touching moments are not something that I will usually experience in commercial events.

I am reminded and know I have a deeper calling. #proud2bcatholic #emceesg

2. Walking through with me, what makes a customer experience valuable, product knowledge and customer service received.

In further conversations off stage I had with individuals later, I shared more personally that how with digital transformation, organizations can deliver these experiences through a business-centric approach rather than being departmental silos of information that are disjointed and overly complex

What is strength? what is beauty?

Come get ready with me! #grwm

I thought I knew.

Until I was diagnosed with stage 3 Breast Cancer, Triple Negative, at only age 38.

For anyone out there who is feeling despair, there is light and hope, one step at a time! (See earlier posts of my journey documented)

And on the way down to the rock bottom, I hit all the sharp edges and fell into a ravine of despair.

But through it all, I truly learned what a strong and beautiful woman is- defined by my character, values and it is in my response. I learned this especially from so many others before me.

A strong woman is one who is loving to ourselves even though we are stripped away of everything because of our circumstances.

For me if was my health, my career, my appearances and everything that i believed in.

Clumps of hair was falling off, I was losing my mind (I experienced what is being clinically and situationally depressed) and I was barely surviving (nothing is more important any than being able to eat, sleep, breathe, poop and walk/ move).

I deeply appreciated the thoughtfulness and kindness of my family and friends who supported me during this whole time.

They were with me through text messages, acts of service whenever we are out together and surprising me with deliveries.

And many met me where I was emotionally and did not make me feel like I had to “unstuck” myself.

I am glad that many were sensitive not to tell me the “dos” and “do nots”.

No matter the adversity, remember to choose to be that strong, beautiful woman.

But, first, we need health. Let’s prioritise that health and breast check today.

A supportive community is so essential! Remember to check in with your loved ones and friends. And don’t forget to do your own check ins too.

Health knowledge is empowerment!

Over pineapple tarts and tea, I was reminded over Chinese New Year (CNY) that “removing the bad and the old, welcoming the new and the good” is what CNY 🧧🍊🍊 is all about.

Many conversations I have been in recently have been centering around wanting to become more conscious of what we put in our bodies when consuming food, living a active and fitness lifestyle and becoming even more aware of our our health data.

As I shared about my own experiences that knowing our body is empowerment for ourselves. We need to take charge of our health today.

I did my latest health screening with Doctor Anywhere @doctoranywhere where they came to my home and did the entire health screening!

For me, I took the home-based Fem Elite Health Screening Package with Doctor Anywhere. This package includes a physical test, blood pressure, diabetic, lipid and cardiac tests, haematology, kidney and liver tests, bone and joint tests, urine and stool analyses, and thyroid and cancer markers.

It had been logistically smooth, with the appointment at my convenience and above all, an especially caring experience I had personally with the Nurse who had come to my home.

To top off the positive experience, the call post visit later to me to consult with the doctor made me feel that I had nothing to worry about in the meantime.

Opps, then I have no more excuses for procrastinating any future health screenings!

And the plus point- I no longer feel alone as I have many others in the #lbcommunity who are doing it with me too!

There is no more reason to say that it is so much effort to travel to a location nor say that I have no time to plan :p

Perhaps a paradigm shift, to make health screening less taboo and more widely spoken, we can even make it a weekend activity with our family or friends!

If not, we can always motivate ourselves by knowing our own health data by actually knowing how MANY pineapple tarts we can have?! 🤪

Having the privilege to be featured in @lovebonito Love, Bonito’s 13th Anniversary campaign, that had just ended a few days ago after the campaign period of 6 months that ended in January, was already more than I had hoped for. And being in this campaign featured in 6 counties (Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, United States), was definitely better than I had imagined.
